A quick reminder that Our Bus starts their Wherry 100 Service between Vauxhall Holiday Park and Great Yarmouth Seafront from this coming Monday 24th July 2023. The service also connects for rail services at the station.
We bother because we care about connectivity and Great Yarmouth station is a good distance from the seafront and town centre. Families arriving with luggage or people on day trips cannot always afford a taxi or want a long walk. Last year we carried almost 10,000 people despite a cold and wet August. The service is called Wherry 100, that’s what it says on the advertising and hence what it says on the bus. We also advertise this service and its name and install timetables at all the stops. We have stepped in to actually fund the service this year and are pleased that Our Hire are happy to run the service, we also appreciate the efforts of ENTUA who campaigned for the service and along with many of our Wherry Lines volunteers actively assist in its promotion. We have the only bus service to actually call at the railway station forecourt - despite hundreds of thousands of pounds being spent by Norfolk County Council on the station forecourt (including bus shelter and bus lay-by at which only the Wherry 100 stops) and more recently stops on the dual carriageway which are accessed only by crossing the station car park, ASDA link road, a second car park and then a walk up the dual carriageway or across it! We believe it made a difference last year and will again this year. Connectivity to rail is really important to us. The service is also popular with people living in places such as Reedham who rely on the trains (the village has one bus per week) and sometimes want to take their family to the coast - of course Lowestoft station is very well sited for the beach and town centre but Yarmouth isn’t. This six week service supports many people to enjoy a day out and supports businesses in Great Yarmouth. It also helps many people arriving on holiday reach their accommodation or onward travel via the bus station. We are proud to both fund it and promote it. I don't really know why they bother. It's running empty most of the time. Definitely overkill on the seafront.
ReplyDeleteAlthough it would help if they actually had the proper destination on the front. Where does it go to??
It is a circular route so no final destination
