Fleetlines FEX524, AEX18B and AEX20B at Beach Coach Station

The Freeline was an underfloor-engined bus chassis built by Daimler between 1951 and 1964. It was a very poor seller in the UK market for an underfloor-engined bus/coach chassis, but became a substantial export success.

Great Yarmouth Corporation purchased eight of them with Roe bodywork during 1962 and 1964. The first batch of five arrived in January 1962 bearing registrations FEX121-3 and FEX524/5. A further three appeared in March and April 1964 registered AEX18-20B

By May 1977, when this picture was taken, the dual purpose 43 seaters were nearing the end of their useful lives. One of the eight survived a little longer, as FEX122 was converted into a breakdown tender and photos of it in that guise can be found here on Flickr
