Southdown 100 Running Day

Whilst the main Southdown100 rally took place in Southsea last month, additional events continue to be held in the south east to celebrate Southdown's one hundred years

In attendance on the day was this 1965 Marshall bodied Leyland Leopard BUF122C 

Last Sunday saw Southdown’s Centenary being celebrated in Worthing, where the company started operations. A running day was organised with a staff reunion also taking place in the town

The event was centred on the area close to the pier from where a network of free bus services operated using former Southdown vehicles.

It was quite unusual to see the forecourt of the depot in Library Place dominated by the green and cream of the Southdown liveried buses

As you will have seen from my earlier posts, I didn't attend the event although my daughter sent most of the photos which accompany this article

Preserved Leyland Tiger PS1/1 GUF727 was new in April 1947 with  an Eastern Coach Works coach body.
It was rebuilt in 1955 receiving a 32 seater bus body

Heading eastbound is 'Queen Mary' 412DCD, a Leyland Titan PD3/4 with a Northern Counties body.
