Norwich P&R Site Saved

The Postwick Park and Ride (P&R) site, once at risk of closure, has been rescued following Norfolk County Council's decision to appoint new companies to manage its P&R bus services. Located on Norwich's eastern fringe, the site was in jeopardy due to the council's loss of subsidies for bus services.

The Conservative-led council has announced the successful companies, with Konectbus, the service provider since 2015, not securing a contract. The council initiated the retendering process for all P&R services this summer, stating it would no longer subsidise operators.

Central Connect, operated by Diss-based Simonds, has secured the contract for both the Postwick and Harford sites. The continuation of the Postwick service was unexpected, as the council had considered closing it to save £150,000.

First Buses has been awarded the contract for the Thickthorn and Norwich Airport routes. Additionally, the Sprowston P&R will become a transport hub for city routes, with First Bus incorporating it into its pink line service, which connects Sprowston with the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital through the city centre.

These changes are set to take effect from April next year.
